NOVAS is Hiring a Coordinator

New Orleans Voices for Accountability and Safety (NOVAS) formed in 2016 and is comprised of 15+ volunteer members. Our mission is to support and participate in the successful implementation of the New Orleans Safety and Justice Challenge (SJC) by holding public officials accountable to the SJC plan to safely reduce the jail population and increase equity within the criminal system.

Position Description:

NOVAS seeks a dynamic and creative coordinator for our volunteer members. This is a contractor position (15-20 hrs/week) that is primarily remote. The coordinator is critical to translating member activity and advocacy into measurable and sustainable outcomes through providing administrative support, ongoing engagement, and recordkeeping. The coordinator will report to the elected steering committee of NOVAS, comprised of 3 volunteer members.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrange logistics for all NOVAS monthly meetings and special events, including but not limited to reserving meeting space and circulating Zoom information, ordering food as needed, formatting and printing of meeting materials, arranging audio-visual as needed

    • Note: NOVAS meetings alternate month-to-month between in-person and virtual

  • Attend all NOVAS monthly meetings and special events

  • Prepare and maintain a monthly and annual calendar of NOVAS and NOVAS partner events

  • Prepare, submit, and track financial reimbursements and payments, ensuring that all payment requests are properly authorized and support the intended mission of NOVAS

  • Support NOVAS elected leadership and working groups, through follow-up of NOVAS correspondence and tasks/activities, as directed by NOVAS leadership.

  • Draft annual report of NOVAS activities every calendar year

  • Solicit requests for proposals as needed for consultant activities at the direction of NOVAS elected leadership

  • Act as the main point of contact for non-members and direct inquiries to the appropriate NOVAS member/leader, including media, partner requests, city agencies, etc. 

  • Draft minutes of monthly meetings

  • Support working groups through logistics, including scheduling, meeting space, etc.

  • Maintain organization’s files, documents and bylaws

This is a one-year, 1099 contractor position. The coordinator can expect to work 15-20 hours per week and will use their own laptop, wifi and home office. While the position is primarily remote, the coordinator must be a resident of Orleans Parish in order to fulfill in-person duties such as attending NOVAS meetings and NOVAS partner events, engaging with city agencies, etc.
